Hey Boo Boo...Look at that Picnic Basket

One of my favorite things about summer is picnics - by the river, at the lake, at the beach, at the park, in the backyard...I'm not picky about where, but I am picky about what. For me the best picnics are those with the proper accouterments...my daughter Savannah has become quite the expert in the last 7 years.

I am addicted to containers and well with picnics, you get to use lots of containers! I keep a basket stocked with the basic supplies and always have a cute blanket on hand. I have a couple of baskets, but this is my favorite because it holds alot and I always bring the hamper/cooler.

Dont's forget the libations...

This summer we are planning a few special picnics. Our town shows movies in the park so we will picnic at a few of those and we will be picnicing in the great outdoors on our upcoming roadtip in July. In addition we will throw in the backyard, park and beach along the way.

It'a always fun to have an impromptu picnic along the way!

Alfresco Dining

Ahhhhh Summer is in the air. One of my favorite things about summer is dining alfresco - breakfast, lunch, and dinner, if possible.  Our backyard is a constant project. It seems like as soon as I get one area done, I find another that needs attention - it just never seems to end.

I had a weekend of guests and I was so excited to being our alfresco season. Unfortunately it was too chilly to eat dinner outside. I decided to leave the table set with linens and I have been enjoying morning coffee and lunch.  I should probably feel a little guilty, but I've come up with two very good reasons to justify this;
1. I've been working on my backyard to-do's
2. I've been exercising the puppy

Works for me!

Rain, rain, go away.....

Rain, Rain, go away I have furniture to refinish today! I guess my cabinet will have to wait for another day.

Since I can't sand and paint as I planned and I'm not particularly interested in the  ever growing list of chores, I decided to find something new to work on.

You know what you've heard since you were a kid....when life gives you lemons....

Well guess what - we are inundated with lemons!  Our poor tree is about to fall over.

So I decided it was time to figure out what to do will all of these lemons.

I decorated... (please ignore the really dirty window - it's been raining for days)

I found some cute containers and filled them with lemons to give to the neighbors and my daughter's teachers....

I made lemon juice ice cubes...

and lemon slice cubes...

lemonade (which honestly isn't the same on a cold day)

I think the 'grown-up' version will be much better.  Can't wait to have the limoncello! I can drink it and pretend I'm in Italy...  Giada has a great recipe

Chicken picatta for dinner...

Now for dessert...

Lemon sorbet?

Lemon Bundt Cake?

or Lemon Meringue Pie?

So since I can't work on my cabinet, I will eat, drink and be lemony!

Cheers!
